Daniel Baker was born and raised in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, amongst the trees and birds of the Dandenong Ranges. At the time he was often seen in tracksuit paints, a sweater sewn by his mother, and Blundstone chelsea boots. While he no longer wears the boots, tracksuit pants are a must in winter. Sometime after that there was high school and university where he eventually earned a PhD in Literary Studies.
For 12 years Daniel taught creative and professional writing, fantasy literature, and Shakespeare studies at Deakin University. This love of writing fantasy/SF and reading translated in a variegated collections of short stories and scholarly articles published both in Australia and abroad (see below). Conferences were attended. Classes were designed. Papers were peer-reviewed. Throughout this period, a selection of Japanese denim, MTM blazers, leather shoes, and sneakers were curated, the finite space of draws and wardrobes pushed to the limits of what the law of physics allows.
Now, however, that chapter is closed and the next one titled “Narrative Gauge Sweater” begins …
